“RECREATE – Hands on Reconstruction Workshop” was designed to provide participants with key theoretical and practical skills in the reconstruction of papyrus scrolls, while also showcasing and testing the prototype of Maque-IT, the first software specifically developed for virtual reconstruction of papyrus scrolls.
The workshop program included:
- Lectures by the teaching team, covering techniques for reconstructing both documentary and literary scrolls, with a specific focus on charred scrolls from Herculaneum and their unique challenges.
- Visit and general lesson at the Officina dei Papiri Ercolanesi (National Library of Naples “Vittorio Emanuele III”).
- Practical sessions where participants, supported by teachers and assistants, had the opportunity to apply the methodologies learned using the current version of Maque-IT. Practical sessions were conducted in collaboration with Florent Noël, Jérémy Vagnet, and Thierry Dassonville (Curious Company), the software developers.
- Final roundtable discussion to review achievements and future goals.
